Accredited CNA Training with a Red Cross Foundation
First Coast CNA in Jacksonville delivers one of the region’s most comprehensive CNA training programs. Accredited by both the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Board of Nursing, the program stands out for its use of the American Red Cross curriculum—a nationally respected training system known for hands-on, compassionate care instruction. Students enrolled in the 120-hour CNA training course gain a well-rounded foundation in patient care, practical skills, and clinical experience, preparing them not only for the Florida state CNA exam but for confident entry into the workforce.
Program Format and Curriculum
The program is structured into three main learning components:
- 40 hours of classroom instruction based on the Red Cross curriculum
- 40 hours of lab-based skills practice
- 40 hours of real-world clinical rotations at established nursing homes and long-term care facilities
This immersive format allows students to transition smoothly from theory to application, reinforcing critical skills like taking vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and documenting patient conditions. Students also learn how to communicate professionally with clients and report observations to licensed nurses—essential workplace practices in healthcare settings.
Flexible Class Schedules
Students can choose between a full-time day schedule or a part-time evening option.
- The day program runs for 3 weeks, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- The evening program spans 5 weeks, Monday through Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Clinical rotations are integrated into both schedules, with daytime students completing them during their final week and evening students attending clinicals over the last two weeks of their training, including weekend hours.
Admissions Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years old or have a high school diploma or GED. Additional requirements include:
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Payment and completion of a Level 2 Live Scan background check ($90 fee)
- Submission of demographic data and Social Security or Tax ID card
While no previous experience is necessary, applicants should be physically capable of performing caregiving tasks and be prepared to work closely with patients in various settings.
Cost and Financial Assistance
The cost of the full 120-hour CNA program is $1,100. Students may add services such as the background check, AHA BLS/CPR certification, and a CNA study guide at registration. First Coast CNA also provides multiple financial assistance options:
- Tuition sponsorships are available through partnerships with FCCNA and UpCare
- Financing options include PayPal Credit
Students pursuing sponsorship must commit to working full-time in Jacksonville for 6 to 12 months following graduation.
Instructor Expertise and Support
The training is led by experienced RN instructors and supported by skilled CNA assistants. The instructors not only teach in the classroom and lab but also supervise clinical rotations, ensuring continuity in learning and a high standard of care. Their presence during clinicals gives students immediate feedback in real-time settings and strengthens clinical decision-making skills.
Job Placement Services
First Coast CNA maintains strong relationships with local employers and clinical rotation partners, which helps connect students with job opportunities after graduation. Graduates can begin working as CNAs for up to 120 days before passing the Florida Board of Nursing exam, giving them a valuable head start. Career support includes résumé writing, application guidance, and direct referrals to hiring employers.
On-Site Testing and Study Support
First Coast CNA is a regional testing center for the Florida CNA certification exam. This convenience allows students to take their state licensure test on-site in a familiar setting.
